Home is where the heart is
Living on campus is a big part of life at UCR. Here, housing isn’t just a place to stay, it’s where friendships begin, where study sessions turn into deep conversations, and where your independence truly takes shape. Every UCR student lives in one of four dedicated campus housing locations, each with its own feel, community, and personality. Whether you’re drawn to quiet corners or lively common rooms, there’s a place here that fits the way you want to live and grow.
Bachtensteene
Bachtensteene
If you’re looking for a quiet, close-knit environment with everything you need in one private space, Bachtensteene might be your ideal starting point. Once a care home, this compact residence now houses around 76 students in individual studio-style units. Each student has their own bedroom, ensuite bathroom, and kitchenette, offering a sense of privacy and autonomy from day one. But Bachtensteene isn’t just about peace and quiet. The shared common rooms on each floor bring people together for breakfasts, potlucks, movie nights, and unexpected moments of connection. It’s the smallest of UCR’s residences, and that intimacy is exactly what many students love about it.

Bagijnhof
Bagijnhof
Spread across some of the oldest and most charming streets in Middelburg, Bagijnhof is where history meets housemate bonding. It’s UCR’s most communal housing option, made up of smaller houses where groups of 10 to 16 students live together. Each house has its own shared kitchen, living room, and bathrooms, creating a truly homey vibe. Life here is full of shared routines and spontaneous fun, group dinners, themed parties, collaborative study sessions, and deep chats over late-night tea. If you’re someone who thrives on social energy and the feeling of living with a small, chosen family, Bagijnhof offers exactly that.

Koestraat
Koestraat
Just a five-minute walk from the academic heart of campus, Koestraat offers city-style living with a strong sense of connection. Housed in a former office building, it’s been thoughtfully transformed into a residence where around 120 students live in studios and shared units. Many rooms include private kitchens and bathrooms, while others share facilities with a small group. Each floor has its own common room, creating spaces to unwind, cook together, or just hang out after class. With a bike shed, laundry, and elevator access, it’s a modern, practical choice, perfect for students who want a blend of independence and community in a central location.

Roggeveenhof
Roggeveenhof
For students who want a bit more space and a slightly quieter setting, Roggeveenhof provides a refreshing sense of balance. Just ten minutes from campus by foot or bike, this leafy residential complex is home to around 180 students. You’ll live in a bright, modern studio with your own kitchen and bathroom, ideal for students who value privacy and personal space. That said, you’re never far from others: shared common rooms, free laundry, and social spaces keep the sense of community alive. Roggeveenhof appeals to those who want the freedom of independent living, with the support of being surrounded by fellow students.
